It offers long-term courses, short-term courses, test-series courses, and crash courses.
Programs
The wing of Aakash, which was the first part, was started by J. C. Chaudhry, a botany teacher, in 1988. Known as Aakash Institute, it coaches students in grades XI and XII for admission to medical colleges in India.[3]
The engineering wing, Aakash IIT-JEE, was started in 2007 for providing coaching to students of classes XI and XII for engineering entrance exams, especially the Joint Entrance Examination.[4]
The Aakash Foundations brand, founded in 2009, coaches students in classes VIII to X, preparing them for the board exams and junior level competitive examinations like the National Talent Search Examination and exams conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation.[5]
The Aakash National Talent Hunt Exam (ANTHE) is conducted annually through which scholarships and fee waivers are awarded to meritorius students joining a coaching program. In 2015, it received over 177,000 applicants. Nowadays, it is conducted twice a month.[6]
Aakash offers e-learning programs through Aakash iTutor, a tablet-based application,[7] and Aakash TV Tutoring DTH coaching program, an alliance with India's DTH service provider, Bharti Airtel's new iTV Service — iExam — for a coaching services through Airtel digital TV.[8] In 2012, the Business Standard noted that Aakash was "bullish" about its online offerings.[1]
Branches and franchise centres
Aakash has its branches and franchise centres in north and East India and some part of West India, and started to expand its branches in South India before the 2011 academic session.[5] Due to NEET and JEE to be made into the all-India based Common Entrance Test (CET) for Medical and Engineering aspirants beginning 2013, Aakash has expanded its presence in South India[9][10][11] and West India.[12]
Through its subsidiary Aerita Cineworks, Aakash entered into the film production business in May 2015, debuting with the film Rough Book.[13]
