Cihtong Township in Yunlin County

Cihtong Township (Chinese: 莿桐鄉; Hanyu Pinyin: Cìtóng Xiāng; Tongyong Pinyin: Cìhtóng Siang; Wade–Giles: Tz'u4-t'ung2 Hsiang1) is a rural township in Yunlin County, Taiwan. It has a population total of 29,599 and an area of 50.8502 square kilometres.

Name

Citong was named after Citong Lane (Chinese: 莿桐巷; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Chhì-tông-hāng). Before the Qing Dynasty era, Erythrina flowers (Chinese: 刺桐; pinyin: cìtóng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: chhì-tông) flourished without any population there where former people came to reclaim wasteland, choosing a small lane to establish houses for a village in which the flowers spread throughout the whole lane.

Citong Township has a total population of 30,000 people.[1]

Administrative divisions

Citong Village, Gancuo Village, Ganxi Village, Xingtong Village, Yihe Village, Puzi Village, Damei Village, Puwei Village, Xinggui Village, Raoping Village, Sige Village, Mayuan Village, Wuhua Village and Liuge Village.

Economy

The township main economy is agriculture. It produces paddy rice mainly along the northern township border with Zhuoshui River in which the output is the highest in the county.
