Džanan Musa (born May 8, 1999) is a Bosnian professional basketball player who plays for Cedevita of the Croatian League. Standing at 6 ft 8.71 in (2.05 m) and weighing 203 lb (92 kg), Musa plays the small forward position.
Early life
Musa was born in Bihać, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the second child of Bosniak parents Rusmir and Saudina. He began playing association football at first, before choosing to focus on basketball. Musa started playing junior basketball in the youth setup at KK Bosna XXL, when he was 7 years old. He then moved to Sarajevo-based KK Koš, before joining Croatian team KK Cedevita in 2014.
Professional career
In December 2014, he signed a deal with Croatian team Cedevita.[1] Musa made his Euroleague debut on 15 October 2015, making him the ninth-youngest player to make their debut in the Euroleague. Musa played the first 4:55 minutes of the game and recorded 4 points.[2]
National team
Musa participated at the 2014 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship for the Bosnian national Under-16 team, leading the tournament in scoring at 23.0 points per game. He also played at the 2015 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship, where he led in scoring, at 23.3 points per game and assisting at 6.3 assists per game.[3] He also averaged 9.0 rebounds during the tournament. In a Final game against hosts Lithuania, Musa scored 33 points to go with his 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks leading his team to a victory 85-83, securing a gold medal for his team.[4] Musa was named the MVP of the tournament and was selected to the All-Tournament Team. Musa also played at the 2016 FIBA Under-17 World Championship, where he led in scoring at 34.0 points. He also averaged 8.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Džanan Musa scored 50 points in 27 minutes at the 2016 FIBA Under-17 World Championship against Chinese Taipei and now holds the record for most points scored in FIBA Under-17 World Championship.
Musa is only 17 but he represented the senior Bosnia and Herzegovina team during Eurobasket 2017 qualification. He averaged 8.2 points,5.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists and 0.8 steals. Bosnia lost the game against Russia but the team had also other kind of problems. Mirza Teletović, the leader of the NT, had a serious confrontation with rising star Džanan Musa. Teletović accused Musa of flopping after a contact with Sergey Karasev and after Musa wants to fight Timofey Mozgov and the two started to discuss with animosity. The other teammates had to intervene and separate the two players. Musa was brought to the bench and he was shocked, he almost started to cry.[5]
