John Joseph McVeigh is an Australian politician. He has been a Liberal National member of the Australian House of Representatives since July 2016, representing the electorate of Groom, Queensland. He was formerly a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for Toowoomba South from 2012 to 2016 [1] He was appointed Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestries on 3 April 2012.[2]

He is the son of Tom McVeigh, who represented Groom and its predecessor seat, Darling Downs, from 1972 to 1988.[3]

On 9 April 2016, the LNP announced that McVeigh had been preselected to contest the federal seat of Groom (previously held by his father) at the 2016 federal election. His resignation from the Queensland Parliament on 29 April triggered a by-election in the district of Toowoomba South.[4][5]
