Knighton is an area of Leicester, situated between Clarendon Park to the north, Stoneygate to the east, Oadby and Wigston to the south and the Saffron Lane estate to the west. It is also an electoral ward of the City of Leicester whose population at the 2011 census was 16,805.^[1] It is a residential area, greatly expanded in the 1930s and 1940s with red-brick semi-detached houses.

Originally a separate village a couple of miles from Leicester city centre, it became linked to it by the area known as Clarendon Park during the Victorian period, due to the demand for housing for those newly employed in industry. It still, though, maintains many of the village's original features, such as Oram Cottage,^[2] centred on the Church of St. Mary Magdalene (St. Mary Magdalen)^[3] and therefore it has become a conservation area.^[4]

The village as a suburb expanded in the mid-20th century with the building of the housing estates of West Knighton and South Knighton. These two estates have a typical mix of housing for the post-war era.

It includes Knighton Park,^[5] which is a holder of the Green Flag Award and has a range of amenities, including two play areas, tennis courts, pitch & put (seasonal opening), sensory garden, heath garden. The Wash Brook runs through the park.

In 2015, a group of residents began work on establishing a neighbourhood forum for Knighton with the intention of establishing a Neighbourhood Plan. A series of open meetings with the local community was held, culminating in an election meeting for the neighbourhood forum, at which Leicester's elected mayor Sir Peter Soulsby spoke. A map designating the area has been approved, and the Forum continues to consult locally before drawing up the Neighbourhood Plan.
