Manaus Energia is a Brazilian energy company operating in the Manaus area of Amazonas state. The company has its headquarters in Manaus.
The company aims to produce energy economically and renewably and is responsible for managing hydroelectric dam operations in the area such as the Balbina dam under the Eletronorte system. [1]The Balbina dam located on the Uatumã River was opened in 1989 to some controversy due to the relocation of local tribesmen and the flooding impact on the forest. The dam generates an average of 112.2 MW of electricity from the river system and floods a total of 2360 km2 of rainforest[2]
