Bio

"I'm an independent game developer and graphic novelist.

Telling stories – that’s the thing I want to do in my life. Whether through comics or games – both mediums work fine for me. I’ve got lots of stories in my head, and I'll keep serving them to whoever wants to listen in whichever form."

Upcoming

Mateusz Skutnik said on Patreon, "So at the end we left the infamous town, right? Right? Even if so, wouldn't you like to see what's beyond it's walls? What's beyond the fog/mist? What kind of world spawned such town in the first place? Are the citizens of Daymare indigenous, or just creatures that stumbled upon deserted city structures? Am I saying too much already?"
The game will be released around 2017.

10 Gnomes

10 Gnomes is a game series created by Mateusz Skutnik. Each game consists of a series of black-and-white photographs of various settings, and the player can zoom in on the pictures in certain places to search for 10 gnomes that Skutnik has drawn into the photos.

It consists of four games in which the player plays as a secret agent named Kara, investigating the disappearance of a Bavarian scientist named Karl von Toten in 1904. The series takes place in an alternate universe where WW1 took place 10 years earlier, due to an earlier Industrial/Scientific Revolution.

Kara breaks into Karl von Toten's mansion in Covert Front 1, and finds that it is empty. She finds a secret lab underneath the house, and finds a hidden base underneath that.

Kara goes to Zurich, Switzerland in Covert Front 3. She goes around the town looking for clues about what happened to Karl von Toten. She is kidnapped by Manfred Nikolai, von Toten's butler, who she realizes was spying on Toten for the German government. Kara escapes, finds an airplane, and flys to Lisbon, Portugal, where Manfred said that von Toten was.
In Covert Front 4, Kara goes to Lisbon, Portugal. She manages to find von Toten, but Manfred comes in to kill them. In self-defense, Kara kills Manfred. Von Toten then turns on a projector pointed at a blank wall, and a door appears. Kara and von Toten go through the door, and Kara destroys the projector. The door disappears.

Upcoming

Skutnik and Konwerski repeatedly told fans that Covert Front 4 was the end of the series, but in July 2015, when Mateusz reached $1000 a month on Patreon, they decided to make Covert Front 5. Mateusz will probably start making it in 2016.

Where is the New Year?

Where is the New Year is a series of games created by Mateusz Skutnik. They are all very different, but they are all connected by the main goal: to find the personified new year.

Where is 2009?, the first game in the series, is a simple platformer where the player is Santa Claus. The game starts like an escape-the-room game, but rapidly becomes surreal when Santa falls down a hole that leads to China. He finds 2009 in the form of a baby being kept in a secluded Buddhist monastery.
Where is 2010? is a simple platformer that takes place in the Daymare Town universe. The player is a tiny black creature who is trying to find 2010.
Where is 2011? is made in the style of 10 Gnomes. It consists of black-and-white photographs of Gdansk, Poland that the player can zoom in on to look for clues. The player find that 2011 is in the form of a gnome.
Where is 2012? is similar to Where is 2009?, in that it is a platformer where the player is Santa Claus. The difference is that it is much bigger, and the backgrounds are watercolored. Santa must go around the North Pole solving puzzles, searching for the infant personification of 2012.
Where is 2013? is a point-and-click game in the style of 10 Gnomes, except that the photographs are in color. The player must find 2013, which is in the form of a grey alien.
Where is 2014? is the shortest game in the series so far. It is a point-and-click game in the style of Submachine or Covert Front, but in a different style. The entire game takes place on one screen, which contains many devices and puzzles. The goal of the game is to set off an alarm clock to wake up 2014, which is in the form of a young child.
Where is 2015? is the largest game in the series so far. The gameplay is the same as Where is 2013?. The player finds 2015, which is in the form of a young child. This game's download size was so large, some websites that host Mateusz's games couldn't host Where is 2015?.

Upcoming

Skutnik said on his website that he may end the series after Where is 2017?, unless he comes up with a good idea for the game series. He said on Patreon that Where is 2017? would be a puzzle platform game.

Many of these games can be found elsewhere on the internet, on flash gaming websites such as Kongregate and JayIsGames.

This game is the first in a series called The Big Old Tree that Dreams made by the Rudowski brothers. The player is a girl named Myosotis, who finds herself in a mysterious village in a beautiful valley after the wheels on her wagon break. Myosotis must solve the mystery surrounding the town. This is the only game in the series made for Pastel Games, so it is the only one on their website.
This is a very kid-oriented game made by Karol Konwerski and Kamil Kochanski. The game is drawn in a very cartoony way.
Owl's Nest was made by Maciej Palka and Karol Konwerski. The game takes place in an abandoned Nazi base hidden in the Bavarian mountains. The player, a spy for the Allies, breaks into it in 1943, and tries to find out what its purpose was. As the player ventures deeper into the base, he/she finds the dark reason why this base was abandoned by the Nazis. This is one of Pastel Games' creepiest games, and is not for the faint-of-heart. The player finds that the Nazis were trying to make super-soldiers (like Captain America), but the experiment went wrong and turned everyone in the base into zombies.
In this game, the player is a detective who specializes in finding monsters. He receives a distress signal from a town, so he goes there to investigate. The player must solve many puzzles and interact with many people before he realizes the dark, ancient secret the town hides. Plumber Pickle is a cartoony point-and-click game where the player is a plumber trying to fix a leak.
Eien is a point-and-click escape game written and drawn by Jacek Witcynski and programmed by Mateusz Skutnik. It is extremely atmospheric, and contains many puzzles involving control panels, staircases, hidden clues, and, most of all, hidden objects.
