MediAngels is an India-based multi-speciality 'e-hospital' service provider, managed by Angels Health Private Limited, a private medical consulting firm. Dr Debraj Shome and Dr. Arbinder Singal are the co-founders.MediAngels is a global e-hospital that promises to “deliver quality healthcare at the click of a mouse”. Allowing for consultations with specialists from around the world on their website, exchange of information with these doctors by sending medical reports and through live chat, the portal was an attempt to deliver the power of technology and the Internet to make healthcare easy and fast.[1]

History

MediAngels, launched in 2011, recently received funding from the private equity unit of HDFC which has bought around 12 per cent stake in the company for Rs 2.5 crore (approximately US$5,00,000).[2][3][4]

Service line and concept

Angels Health's website mediangels.com provides online consultation from a large pool of medical experts and specialty doctors across the globe to users, typically patients seeking second opinions or those looking for advice from experts not available locally.[5]

Consumers can choose to get blood tests, urine tests and other diagnostic tests done from the location of their choice. Upon making an appointment, the lab personnel come and collect samples from the patient´s residence and deliver reports back as well. These reports are automatically made available on the users´ MediAngels profile. Both the patient and the doctor are notified by SMS or email when the same has been done. This allows the physician to evaluate the investigation reports.[6]

Specialist base

MediAngels as of now has a team of 300 doctors from over 85 super-specialty hospitals across 25 countries.[7] MediAngels panel recruitment is by invitation only. Patients have the option to choose from amongst the panel of specialists available for each medical specialty and information including the resume as well as their degree and fellowship certificates of each specialist will be available on the website.[8]

MediAngels Centres

MediAngels currently has three offices in Mumbai – one for the technology team, another for the sales & distribution team and the third one for the digital sales and marketing team. One of the offices also doubles up as MediAngels operation centre.[9] The portal has also tied up with 21,000 laboratories across India for on call diagnostic services.[10]

MediAngels Oration Programme

The first MediAngels Oration was accredited by the Maharashtra Medical Council (the state governmental body for accrediting doctors) as a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program of substance and was awarded 1 CME point for attendance. The oration was delivered by breast surgeon, Dr. P Raghuram in April 2011 at Mumbai[11]

Future plans

MediAngels is currently in discussion with the state governments of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh to offer solutions to rural areas.[4]
