New Somerset, Ohio
New Somerset is an unincorporated community in northern Knox Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. It lies along State Route 213 approximately 5 miles (8 km) south of the unincorporated community of Hammondsville and 15 miles (24 km) north of the city of Steubenville, the county seat of Jefferson County. It lies somewhat more than 1 mile (nearly 2 km) southeast of the Yellow Creek, a small tributary of the Ohio River, which itself is located 4 miles (6½ km) to the east of New Somerset.[1]
New Somerset is part of the Weirton–Steubenville, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
New Somerset was laid out in 1816.[2] A post office called New Somerset was established in 1851, and remained in operation until 1907.[3]
