Sanaya Irani is an Indian model-turned-actress. Her first major role was in the Indian youth show Miley Jab Hum Tum. She subsequently appeared in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?, Chhanchhan and Rangrasiya.[3][4]
Personal life
Irani spent seven years in a boarding school in Ooty.[5] Following this, she graduated from Sydenham College[6] and wanted to pursue an MBA degree but decided to become an actress.
Irani announced her relationship with her co-star from Miley Jab Hum Tum on 19 November 2010, the last day of the shoot.[7]
At the beginning of her career, Irani wasn't fluent in Hindi and spoke of her struggles with the language on several occasions.[8]
On 25 January 2016, Irani married her long time boyfriend and costar from the serial Miley Jab Hum Tum , actor Mohit Sehgal in Goa in a Punjabi wedding.[9]
Career
Television
Irani started her career as a model. She made her acting debut with a cameo in the Yash Raj Films production Fanaa as Mehbooba (2006).[6] Irani's first lead role was in STAR One's show Miley Jab Hum Tum (2008-2010),[10] as Gunjan.[11] After this, she portrayed Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada, the female protagonist of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? (2011-2012).[12] Irani's portrayal of characters in Miley Jab Hum Tum and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? made her one of the most well-known and admired Indian television actresses.[13] The show, which aired its final episode on 30 November 2012.
Irani has received three 'Face of The Year' awards and was the only television actress to be included in People Magazine (India)'s forty most beautiful women. She was titled the 3rd Sexiest Asian Woman Alive.[14]
In early 2013, Irani hosted Ishq Wala Love opposite Karan Grover.[15] She then played the role of a vivacious and modern girl in Chhan Chhan (2013).[16][17] The show was loosely based on the Hindi movie Khubsoorat.[18] Irani appeared in Rangrasiya (2014) as Parvati.[19] It ended in September.[20] Irani portrayed the role of Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada again in its sequel mini series Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?... Ek Jashan (2015) which ended on December.[21]
Reality television and other appearances
Irani briefly hosted the second season of Zara Nachke Dikha on STAR Plus with boyfriend Mohit Sehgal (2010).[22] Irani appeared as a contestant in Welcome - Baazi Mehmaan-Nawaazi ki (2013),[23] hosted by Ram Kapoor. The actress was seen in Week One of the reality show opposite Ragini Khanna, Nigar Khan and others. She also hosted Zee TV's Valentine's Day special Ishq Wala Love with Karan Grover (2013).[24] She made an appearance in Birmingham, London on 30 April 2013 and in Leicester on 1 May 2013 to have a meet and greet with fans where she was welcomed by a huge crowd.[25]
