Saponara (Sicilian: Sapunara) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Messina in the Italian region Sicily, located about 180 kilometres (110 mi) east of Palermo and about 10 kilometres (6 mi) west of Messina. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 4,040 and an area of 26.0 square kilometres (10.0 sq mi).[1]
