Tyler D. Goeddel (born October 20, 1992) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Career
Goeddel was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft out of St. Francis High School in Mountain View, California.[1][2] He signed with the Rays and made his professional debut in 2012 with the Bowling Green Hot Rods and also spent 2013 with them. After the season he played for the Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League.[3] Goeddel played 2014 with the Charlotte Stone Crabs and started 2015 with the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits.
Goeddel was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies with the first pick of the 2015 Rule 5 draft.[4] He made the Phillies' Opening Day roster,[5] and debuted in the major leagues on April 6, 2016.[6] On May 18, 2016, he hit his first career home run off of Miami Marlins pitcher José Ureña.
Personal Life
Goeddel's brother Erik is also a professional baseball player, currently a pitcher with the New York Mets. The brothers' father, David Goeddel, is a pioneering biologist responsible for the development of both synthetic insulin and human growth hormone.
