Visitors to Kazakhstan must obtain a visa from one of the Kazakh diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries.

Visa free entry

Visa is not required for citizens of following 18 countries/territories:[1][2][3]

1 – up to 90 days
2 – up to 30 days
3 – up to 30 days per 180-day period
4 – up to 30 days per year
5 – up to 14 days

A visa-free agreement was signed with  Cuba in December 2015.[4] It is yet to be ratified. Kazakhstan plans to introduce a visa-free regime with Macau.[5]

No-visa pilot program

Citizens of the following countries do not require a visa for stays up to 15 days as part of a no-visa pilot program for countries with the highest investment in Kazakhstan economy. The program was initially started on 15 July 2014 providing unilateral visa free access to 10 countries and in July 2015 it was further extended to a total of 19 countries. These countries are:

On 20 May 2015 President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree that will allow visa exemption for up to 30 days for citizens of some OECD member states, Malaysia, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.[6] Kazakhstan plans to expand a visa-free regime to all OECD countries.[7] Work on visa-free regime is expected to finish in 2017.[8]

In October 2016 it was announced that from 1 January 2017 visa exemption will be in place for the following additional countries:[9]

There are also plans to expand the list with Bulgaria, Cyprus, Lithuania, Malta and Romania.

Visa replacement

Nationals of the following countries who hold valid tourist visas of Kyrgyzstan are able to visit the border districts of Almaty and Jambul regions of Kazakhstan within the validity of such visa: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States.[10]

Non-ordinary passports

Only holders of diplomatic passports of Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and Vatican City and only holders of both diplomatic and service/official passports of Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Israel, Macedonia, Mexico, Montenegro, Romania, Slovakia and South Korea can visit Kazakhstan without a visa for up to 90 days. Only holders of diplomatic passports of Egypt, Poland and Qatar and only holders of both diplomatic and service/official passports of Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Cuba, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan (from 1 Jan 2017),[11] Jordan, Pakistan, Philippines, Turkmenistan and Vietnam can visit Kazakhstan without a visa for up to 30 days.

Pre-arranged visa on arrival

Pre-arranged visa for a stay of up to 1 month can be obtained on arrival for nationals nationals arriving from a country without a Kazakh diplomatic mission. The fee is approximately US$80, and they must hold an invitation letter and obtain an approval from the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They must enter via one of the following ports of entry:[2]
